A girl who turned her Disability into her Ability

My name is Nadia Tabasum Abdul Waheed Abbasi. It was 5th June when I opened my eyes in this world. Allah had created me as a complete and perfect human being. When I grew up, my Parents happily sent to school for my education.

As a little girl I was living a happy life. I did not know that one tragic incident was going to change my whole life altogether. As a 6 years old girl, I had not even come to know the true meaning of life, When I met an unfortunate incident which left everyone around me astonished to see me survive an 11 thousands high voltage electric current. Fortunately, I had survived, but I lost my right arm, and became physically an incomplete person.

However, I was a determined person and did not give up on my life after what had happened to me. I started writing with my left hand just after that incident. In that same year, I secured 1st position in my class. And, from here, began my journey of tireless struggle.

After that incident, I had become much more mature than my age. With the support of my Parents and Teachers, I succeeded in the field of Education.

It always irked me whenever someone showed me sympathy or asked me that how I managed my life. But, that also became a source of motivation. I accomplished every dream of my life with my one hand, what people could not do with two hands.

The passion of doing something great brought me into field of teaching. I started teaching in my area at a small school where I got 600 rupees per month as my salary. This was not something that I did for my living or making money but because I wanted to create an impact on peoples’ lives. I let everyone know that with one hand I could write and hold the book quite easily.

Allah bestowed me with a lot of success and respect. After teaching for two years, I also worked as an administrator and received several awards in my professional field.

Then life took another turn, when I got a government job. But that happiness came with a test. My husband got a cardiac attack on the same day when I got my job offer letter. But here too, Allah did not leave me alone. With His help we managed to face that hard period of life.

Today, I am giving my services as a JST 14 grade teacher at government girls’ comprehensive higher secondary school. It is the same school in which I got my early education. It is not less than an honor for me to teach at the school where I was taught.

I am indebted to all my teachers who provided countless opportunities to me and paved way for my success. Life, indeed, is name of a tireless and continuous struggle where one has to have traits of consistency and perseverance. My struggle is not over yet, it is still continue. I have to go a long way in my life.

And the story of my life will not be complete without mentioning the role of my parents. I am very much thankful to my parents who have always been an enormous support for me, who stood by my side and always put trust in my decisions. I am blessed to have them as my parents.

Today, when people ask whether I can perform my households, whether I can cut the vegetables or not, and so on and so. I simply give them a smile and thank my Allah for his countless blessings.
